AUPresses Raises Funds for Ukrainian Publishers’ Participation in Frankfurt Book Fair

The Association of University Presses (AUPresses) has initiated a fundraising drive to assist Ukrainian publishers in attending the Frankfurt Book Fair of 2026 in light of the continuing destruction of its infrastructure. Publishing Perspectives

The organization aims to collect $6,000 in the first place, which will be used to facilitate the participation of three Ukrainian publishers in the International Convention of University Presses, held at the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 9, 2026. It is worth mentioning that this convention has not been held for seven years and it will emphasize international dialogue and the future of university presses’ publishing.

According to AUPresses, any money that is raised above the target of $6,000 will go to the Ukrainian Book Institute (UBI). The donation will help to support the process of building Ukraine’s book industry, increase the rate of reading and make the works of Ukrainian literature more known around the world. This fundraising campaign has been launched following the attacks on the infrastructure of the book industry in various Ukrainian cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy and Kherson. It has led to the disruption of warehouses, printing houses, publishers and other parts of the book industry chain in Ukraine. The extent of disruption has been recently brought to attention of the international community and local publishing industry.

While the fundraiser aims to offer direct help, it should be noted that the idea behind it is also to keep Ukrainian publishers part of the international publishing world. Attendance at the Frankfurt Book Fair offers opportunities for rights talks and networking.

Frankfurt Book Fair remains supportive of Ukraine's publishing industry. As far as 2026, the Ukrainian national stand will feature 38 publishers and 300 titles, whereas the Volia programme provides training and networking events for Ukrainian publishers and rights experts.

In this regard, the AUPresses fundraising campaign unites direct help with an overall goal to keep Ukrainian publishing tied to global markets amid hard times for Ukrainian books.
